Wolverhampton Wanderers had to grind out single goal victory against an opponent who they’ve struggled to deal with in the last few meetings.
It wasn’t pretty and it was a game where the chances came through mistakes, not fluid football, but once Wolves had the lead it was quite a comfortable win.
Dan Bentley
In a game with little goalmouth action, what he did do he did superbly well. From a mistake in defence the visitors had two quick fire chances that the former Bristol City man dealt with very well, especially the deflected save he tipped round the post. Looked very at ease with the ball at his feet and was happy to play out with the defenders. 7/10
Craig Dawson
An absolute rock in the middle of the Wolves defence where he won header after header. Dominant in what he had to do and hardly troubled all evening plus very unfortunate not have an assist after squaring across the face of goal. 7/10
Max Kilman
I mean this in the kindest possible way, but that felt like a proper captains performance from Kilman. Tidied up everything that came his way and nice range of distribution throughout. Plus one interrupted run right at the start that got Brownhill an early booking. 7/10
Toti Gomes
The Portuguese isn’t quite the same without Air-Nouri next to him, but he played his part in earning a clean sheet and was solid enough. 5.5/10
Nelson Semedo
After being beaten on his inside early on he recovered really well and grew as the game went on. Created a great opportunity for Sarabia and looked comfortable on the ball throughout. His best game in a while. 7/10
Hugo Bueno
Having started two games in four days it’s hardly a surprise he cramped up late on. Solid defensively and nearly always took the safest pass to retain possession. 5.5/10
Mario Lemina
Instead of a Christmas card, Jarred Gillett gave the former Juventus man a yellow one and just like at Southampton last season, I have no idea why. Did his best work without the ball and played his part in the press which resulted in the winning goal. 6/10
Joao Gomes
Not his best game in a Wolves shirt and was caught overplaying which nearly resulted in a Burnley opener. Like with his midfield partner, his better work was done when out of possession. 5/10
Pablo Sarabia
It’s a start he probably earned but did he do enough to keep his shirt for the game v Forest, I’m not sure. Clearly talented and has an eye for a cutting pass, but he’s probably guilty of slowing things down more than needed and I’ve no interest in talking about his corners. 5.5/10
Matheus Cunha
A night of limited opportunities for the Brazilian who struggled to make a consistent impact on the game, but like with his assist for the winner against Man City, yet again he found Hwang which turned out to be the key moment in the game. 5.5/10
Hwang Hee Chan
Eight goals and two assists in fifteen games so far this season, it has been quite an incredible start to the season from the former Leipzig forward. In a game of few opportunities the hosts only had one clear cut chance and ‘the Korean guy’ took it like a man full of confidence. Touch, fake and finish. 6.5/10
