Wolverhampton Wanderers bounced back from Thursday nights injury time heartbrake as they notched a win at Stamford Bridge for the first time since 1979.
Wolves character was tested early on as Chelsea took the lead, but the response was almost immediate and from the equaliser onwards, the visitors looked the stronger side.
As acknowledged by Chelsea captain Ben Chilwell, Gary O’neil’s side just wanted it more.
Jose Sa
Did well when coming to collect high balls and looked confident with his distribution when playing out from the back. Despite conceding two, he wasn’t really that busy. 7/10
Max Kilman
After a tough game on Thursday, the captain responded with a strong display. Very comfortable on the ball, but defensively very strong with one late tackle in particular being that standout bit of stopping. 7.5/10
Craig Dawson
Not quite been himself the last few games, but he was back on it for this one with a really strong and dominant display. Winning headers, tackles & blocks, usual Dawson. Also involved in the build up to goal number two with a lovely ball to Semedo. 8/10
Toti Gomes
Other than being caught by a brilliant through ball for Chelsea’s opener, it was a sold afternoon for the athletic defender. He does worry me with his distribution at times, but his pace gives the Wolves back three something they don’t really have and his inclusion allows Rayan more freedom higher up. 7/10
Nelson Semedo
Managed the threat of Sterling, Mudryk and Chilwell very well. Very comfortable in possession and always offered an out ball wide on the right. Linked up with Neto well, especially in the build up to Wolves second goal. 8/10
Rayan Ait-Nouri
If circumstances had been different, the ridiculously talented Algerian international may not have been at Wolves now. It’s great to have him back in starting XI and he came back in style. Defensively solid and so good on the ball, especially when he finds himself up front. Measured madness, beautiful. 8/10
Mario Lemina
Disciplined, strong and with measured aggression, it was another step closer to the form he produced before the very sad circumstances behind his understandable absence. Quite often another captain with the armband. 8/10
Joao Gomes
More than justified his inclusion at the expense of Tommy Doyle with a superb midfield performance. Dispossessed Caicedo in the build up for Cunha’s equaliser & that set the tone as he didn’t give his midfield opponents a moments rest the whole afternoon. 8/10
Pablo Sarabia
After his positive impact from the bench v Man Utd he was rewarded with a start in the capital and didn’t disappoint. The Spaniard played a little deeper than usual but his quality on the ball and good decision making played a part in a huge win. 7/10
Matheus Cunha
Even if you took away the goals, it was still a very good performance from the Brazilian international as throughout the afternoon he was a constant menace to the Chelsea defence with and without the ball. Pressing, link play, carrying the ball, winning a penalty and scoring a hat-trick, it was an almost faultless afternoon that was topped off with some memorable scenes in front of the away end at full-time. 10/10
Pedro Neto
The Portuguese flier had Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell on toast and in the process he notched another assist as well as being heavily involved with Wolves second goal. From the off his confidence was clear for all to see as he was quick to show some fancy footwork. His relationship with Semedo looked really good as the pair linked well throughout the afternoon. 8.5/10
